Our Story

The Kanawa Educational Foundation for the Disabled was established in 2013 with a clear and unwavering commitment: to empower persons with disabilities (PWDs) through inclusive education, skill acquisition, and community advocacy.

Registered officially in 2015, we recognized the systemic barriers facing disabled individuals in our society. From inaccessible infrastructure to discriminatory policies, PWDs were often left behind in developmental decision-making. We stepped in to bridge this gap.

Over the past decade, we have grown from a small advocacy group into a leading voice for disability rights in Kano State and beyond. Our work is driven by the belief that disability is not inability, and with the right resources and opportunities, every individual can contribute meaningfully to society.

What We Do

Our approach is multi-faceted, focusing on immediate support as well as long-term systemic change:

  • Education & Scholarships: We provide financial assistance and scholarships to ensure disabled children have access to quality education.
  • Skill Acquisition: For older community members, we offer targeted entrepreneurship and vocational training.
  • Policy Advocacy: We actively participate in state-level policy-making, successfully championing the Kano State Disability Bill.
  • Public Awareness: Through our weekly radio programs and community roadshows, we continuously educate the public on disability rights and safeguarding.

With over 21 active partners and hundreds of completed projects, we are proud of our journey, but our work is far from over. We invite you to join us in building a truly inclusive society.
